We’re happy to post this small interview we did with Delphine Mottet who won our design competition that we had in the fall of 2011. Just recently Delphine went to London with our design team, which was the grand prize of the competition!
All the designers had some great few days in London with Delphine
Name: Delphine Mottet
Education/Job: I have a degree in visual arts, orientation “illustration” from Saint-Luc Institute in Liège. I am teaching in a secondary school, Art techniques”. I teach drawing and art history. My pupils are teenagers between 14 and 18 years old. I love my job: it enables me to share my passion for art.
What made you decide to enter this competition? I found the article presenting the contest while I was browsing the facebook page of the brand. I often read your page because I love to see what is going on: new collections, pictures,… I wanted to try it because the objective was very attractive for me: I was very motivated by the possibility of seeing one of my drawings on the brand clothes.
What inspired your design? At home, I have a Russian doll which was my model. Of course, it has been stylized but the basis is the same. The object, very feminine matched the brand.
How was your trip to London? Tell us everything from the flight to the actual stay and day in London? The journey was very nice. Everything was perfectly well organised: I took the plane in Brussels, I arrived in London in the beginning of the afternoon. Then, I met the designers at the hotel. They offered me a tee-shirt and one or two accessories ( a bag and a key hanger). I was very happy.
What did you do on you trip? Everything went very fast: we had a walk in Covent Garden and the girls showed me interesting shops where there were many fashionable and original clothes. Some small shops were presenting astonishing vintage clothes. I didn’t know London very well and I am delighted to have discovered these places.
In the evening, we visited the Chinese area and I tasted delicious sushi ( it was new for me, I had never eaten that before). Everything was very nice because the designers were very caring to me, even if it was not always easy to communicate because my English is vey poor. The next day, we went shopping around Oxford Circus. Then, I crossed Hyde Park, before coming back to Belgium.
Can you describe how it feels to have your personal design go into production? I am very pleased. I am proud of it, even the more as it is on an item of clothing from one of my favourite brands. I think it is great that other people will wear this t-shirt illustrated by my drawing!
Are you planning on going further with designing ideas? Yes, this experience has motivated me a lot and I think that it would be very interesting for me to go on sending my illustrations. I like testing new things, discovering new fields and the fashion world attracts me more and more.
